Pre-Ordered books 2017

2017, blog

Hey, everyone

2017 has quite a few books which I am very much excited to read *SQEEEE*

I have pre-ordered around 4 books which are due to be released at some point throughout the year.

I will mention these in the order that I will be receiving them

Release Date: 18th May 2017

The first book I have pre-order is The Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. This will be the first book that I have read by this author but the synopsis of this book sounded intriguing to me.

It is about a girl who is ambushed by a gang and takes matters upon herself to find out who wanted her dead and to hunt down the gang who ambushed her. She disguises herself as a boy and infiltrates the gang’s hideout.

This reminded me of the Disney movie, Mulan (my absolute favourite Disney film ever!). I can’t wait to read this and see if it lives up to my expectations.

Release Date: 29th June 2017

The second book I have pre-ordered for this year is Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I have read the first two books in the Illuminae series by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman (Review for Gemina is here). I really enjoyed this series and I wanted to read something written by the authors individually.

I have no way to describe this book but it sounds right up my street and something I would really enjoy.

Here is the Synopsis of Amazon

Destined to destroy empires, Mia Corvere is only ten years old when she is given her first lesson in death.

Six years later, the child raised in shadows takes her first steps towards keeping the promise she made on the day she lost everything.

But the chance to strike against such powerful enemies will be fleeting, so if she is to have her revenge, Mia must become a weapon without equal. She must prove herself against the deadliest of friends and enemies, and survive the tutelage of murderers, liars and daemons at the heart of a murder cult.

The Red Church is no ordinary school, but Mia is no ordinary student.
The shadows love her.
And they drink her fear.

Let me know if you find this sounds as intriguing as I do.

Release Date: 13th July 2017

This book is All That She Can See by Carrie Hope Fletcher. I started watching Carrie on youtube a few years ago and this is the second fiction book which she has written, On the other side, was her debut fiction novel. I have all the other books she had written. Admittingly I haven’t read them, but I really want to make sure I have all her books. Her sister in law Giovanna Fletcher is also an author and I have her books and read quite a few of them.

This book is about a young woman who runs her own bakery. She has a gift, she has a skill and she uses it to help people. She makes people feel better about their lives with the cakes she bakes in her bakery. UNTIL someone threatens to undo all the good she has done.

This isn’t something that I usually read but I really like Carrie as a person and I am hoping to get to her first book at some point before this one is released.

Release Date: 7th September 2017

This is the fifth and final book in the Millenium Series by Steig Larsson. The fourth and fifth books are written by David Lagercrantz and Stieg Larsson.

Interesting information, Steig Larsson died in 2004 before any of his books where published. His family found three unpublished finished books in his house and decided to get these published. The fourth and fifth books were partially written by Steig Larsson and have been finished by David Lagercrantz. I love the main character in this series and I am extremely excited about this release this year.

Let me know what books you have pre-ordered and which one you are the most excited about this year.

Gemina Review

2017, blog, REVIEW

Author: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Purchased: Amazon

Date Finished: 14th April 2017

Hanna Donnelly is the station captain’s pampered daughter and Nik Malikov is the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. Together they struggle with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, blissfully unaware that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall with news of the Kerenza invasion.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed the first one and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I can’t wait to see where this series is going to go.

I loved the world building throughout this novel building on where the last book left off. I didn’t quite “get on” with these characters as much as I didn’t with Kady and Ezra but I still really liked them as character and I loved the way they developed throughout. I don’t think the development was as much as in the first book but it was still there.

The only issue I have with this book is that I thought there were points in the book which were rushed and I would of like more information in the background. I also thought the ending was slightly rushed but this has still made me want to carry on with this series.

I haven’t read a full series in quite a few years so I am happy I have found one which has grabbed my attention enough to want to complete it.

Has anyone else read this book, what do you think of it?

The next books were given to me by my step mum which she won in a competition. I hadn’t heard of these books before and this is the first time I had see this trilogy or heard of the author.
