Synopsis from Goodreads
Deep in the stacks of Oxford’s Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.
My Statistics
My Thoughts
This was my first read for the #NEWTSReadathon2019 and I really enjoyed it. I went into this book knowing nothing about it other than I know it has been made into a TV show (I think).
I ended up enjoying it a lot, I really want to get the 2nd in the series but I need to carry on with my NEWTS TBR.
I thought the characters were enjoyable after some thought I did feel like Diana was a little more teenage like than the adult she was. Some of her actions reminded me of a teenager. She was very rebellious when people told her what to do which did manage to get people into trouble.
Matthew, was your typical vampire character, having all the protective traits of a vampire, but he was a likable character.
I thought the development with both characters was done really well.
I liked the plot and although some points were not entirely unique (witches, daemons, vampires, hating each other) other aspects where. I can’t wait to find out where the story goes in the next two books.
I would definitely recommend this book to people. It has made me realize that I do actually like vampire/witches/daemon stories, so I will continue to read more.
Have you read this series, what did you think? Let me know in the comments below.

You don’t. Season 1 corresponds with book 1 so you’re good to watch it now and season 2 will correspond with book 2 and likewise season 3 with book 3 :))) It’s such a great show. I think a really good adaptation

I just recently finished this book as well and am half way through the 2nd. So far, I would say I’m liking the 2nd book even more. Mainly because of the time traveling bit.
