2019, OWLsReadathon2019, Warp up

#OWLsReadathon Wrapup

The #OWLsReadaton2019 is a magical harry potter based readathon setup by BookRoast on youtube

This is the first readathon I have taken part in and I have had such a fun time doing it. The aim of the readathon is to complete your OWLs for a specific career selected from the careers manual that she has put together. You then read books to pass your OWLs based on your career choice.

You can find the careers manual and the O.W.L prompts letter linked under the announcement video.

The career I decided to do for this readathon was

To complete this I had to complete the following O.W.Ls

All reviews will be linked to the book titles if there is one on my blog at the time of posting

Care of Magical Creature – Land animal on the cover

For this prompt, I choose The Trouble with Goats and Sheep by Joanna Cannon

I have had this book on my TBR for a while and it fit perfectly with the prompt

This story is about a woman who goes missing and two 10-year-olds, Grace and Tilly turn into amateur detectives to figure out where she has gone but they manage to uncover more secrets than they imagined.

Charms – Age-line: Read an adult book

So, originally I thought I would read The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

But that book was only 43 pages long so when I finished another book in the month I realised this would also be a perfect book for the prompt, so I am counting The House on Half Moon Street by Alex Reeves as my O.W.L read for Charms.

This book is about a Victorian transgender coroner’s assistant, Leo Stanhope. When a body is wheeled into the morgue, his world is turned upside down and he goes on the hunt to the killer.

Review to come for this book.

Herbology –  Plant on the cover

For my Herbology O.W.L, I read If I Die in a Combat Zone by Tim O’Brien. This is a story of the Vietnam war told by a foot soldier of the war. This is a personal account and such a fascinating read.

Potion – Next ingredient: Sequel

To complete this O.W.L I read The Crimson Campaign by Brian McClellan

Brian McClellan is fast becoming an auto-buy author for me. I love the writing style and the characters/world that he builds.

I massively enjoyed myself with this readathon and will definitely do it again next year. This month has been one of my most successful months for reading.

If I am right towards the end of the year there is another readathon to participate to complete your N.E.W.Ts for your chosen career based on your grades for you O.W.Ls and I am so excited about this.

Did you take part in this readathon or is it something you think you might do in the future? Let me know in the comments below

Happy reading xoxo
